Blog contest is everywhere. Its very popular amongst bloggers and net surfers because it gives a lot of benefits both on the host and the contestants. Hosting a blog contest is a good way to promote your blog because people like joining contest, specially if there are good prizes at stake. For this reason, you are inviting more traffic to your blog. Other than that, there are lots of other benefits you can acquire from hosting a blog contest just like:
■ Increasing your blog readership - The most common requirement for participants to be able to qualify for an entry in a blog contest is to subscribe on the host's RSS feed via reader or email or to the host's newsletters. This is very easy to do and for this reason. Its a no brainer that it will dramatically increase your blog readership. This is a win win situation on both sides specially if you have an informative blog. Not only that your participants qualify an entry but also, they get a handful on your latest updates.
■ More promotion - Another common requirement being asked from blog contest participants for them to qualify an entry in a blog contest is to write a blog post about a particular blog contest. This is highly recommended specially if you're hosting a blog contest exclusively for bloggers with a great prize at stake. This way, you will acquire more promotion which can generate more traffic and thus gives your contest a greater chance of success.
■ Engagement - Okay, you might wonder what kind of engagement is this but surely this is not a wedding engagement or something. This is an engagement between you and your audience. Hosting a blog contest creates more engagement between you and your audience and this is good because you can create a deeper relationship to them. It will help you build trust and create compatibility which is very important as an internet marketer, blogger, entrepreneur.
Also, hosting a blog contest is a good way to reward your loyal readers and visitors. Its one thing that we bloggers should consider because it will help us establish a greater connection to them. It will also make your readers feel valuable. I think its great if you share your blessings or success to others, because in return, it will only bring you greater good.
So now you know the great benefits you can acquire from blog contest and you might already be thinking right now of hosting your own. However, there are few more thing you need to know to make your contest even more successful. Before you think of hosting a blog contest. You need to consider first the prizes that will be at stake and also, you need to know what really makes people have the interest on joining a blog contest.
What exactly will trigger people to join your blog contest
Prizes at stake - If you want to host a blog contest for some reasons (like the good benefits I've mentioned) and wants it to become effective or successful, then choosing the right prizes to be given away is one thing that you must think of. Give prizes that others will find valuable because it will trigger them to join your blog contest. Think of prizes as your bait. Something that people will bite into, something that can be useful, something that people wanted. That way, you will attract more people to join your contest.
So what are these prizes?
■ money - If you can afford to give money as a prize then much better because no doubt, people want money. And thus, more people will join your contest hoping to win the prize money that is at stake.
■ Services - If you're offering a service, any kind of service that can be useful to the general crowd. Then you can definitely use it as a prize. If you're offering an in demand service or something that is very useful then the greater. Also, its one way of promoting the service so its a win win situation.
■ EC Credits - If you're an Entrecard member, then you can use your EC credits as a prize. You just then have to promote your EC Blog contest on Entrecard forums.
■ Ad Space - If you have a quality blog with huge traffic and so happen that you're selling an ad space on it. You can use that Ad space as a blog contest prize. Eventually, everyone that has an online business would want a free advertising specially on a highly traffic blog so having ad space as a prize is good because people like it most specially bloggers and like what i said, those that has an online business.
There are still so many valuable things that you can use as a prize but these 4 that I've mentioned are the most in demand and wanted. So having any of these 4 as a prize is a great thing you could offer. Now lets go to the crucial part and this is something that you don't want to disregard.
Okay, so lets assume you already have an idea about the right prizes to be given. But there's one last thing you need to know and do about to make everything perfect. And it is
Legitimacy - This is basically the most important thing that anyone who's planning to host a blog contest should know about. Given that you know already the best prizes to be given away, the truth is its not enough alone. You must also be able to put some legitimacy on it. Showing people, assuring them that the contest is 100% real and that everything is done legitimately. People don't buy into something right away no matter how great it is unless they know its real. If you want to make your blog contest successful, you have to take away every single doubt or implication of scam from people's mind. So how do you do that?
By creating a video - This is pretty much in handy when it comes to showing people legitimacy. Creating a video is a must because it serves as the eyes of your audience or participants on how everything is done or will be done from the start of the contest to the drawing of winners. Creating a video is very important specially on the last part which is the drawing of winners because people wants to see how it is done fair and square. This is really so important because our main goal here is to take away every single doubt of scam, or that there might be some sort of favoritism which is the reason why that particular person wins. It would be great if in the end, whether a particular person win or not your contest, he still finds himself/herself happy and contented.
A great example of this one is the subscriber contest of MakingMoneyOnline dot com that i joined where in Doug Dillard and Mark Smith, the owners of MakingMoneyOnline dot com are giving away 2 professional designed business logo (a $47 value) and 1 character mascot design ($97 value) sponsored by LogoNerds (a true global company, that specializes on creating great logos for businesses big or small at an extremely affordable price).
If you still don't know, these are reputable gurus already but still, they prefer to show more legitimacy by drawing their contest winners via video to let everyone see how its done. And it makes everyone happy whether they win or not. Given the facts that the prizes are extremely good and that everything is done with great legitimacy. There's no question that the subscriber contest of MakingMoneyOnline dot com has become a great success. Before i forget, I've won the contest, a $47 dollar value professional designed business logo. The one I'll be using for my blog very soon.
Now you know everything that is important on hosting a blog contest. If you want to see everything that i said put into reality. Visit MakingMoneyOnline dot com now. Thank you and have a nice day.

Congratulations for winning the contest my friend. I love joining contest not only for the prize but for the engagement and notification of other bloggers.

Hi Sam, congrats to winning the contest. I totally agree with you about the benefits of hosting a contest. I know I am missing on that part, but quite frankly, I have to find a more creative way of holding it and most importantly, getting the right prizes that are compelling:)
On the side, what I do a lot is to sponsor contests. I have sponsored contest with ads, cash, reviews, etc. It is also a great way to get involved, although not as effective as hosting the contest yourself.
Good one. Have a nice weekend

Hello Ditesco, Thank you :) Yeah there are really lots of benefits we can get from hosting a blog contest. I like what you said "I have to find a more creative way of holding it and most importantly, getting the right prizes that are compelling:)". Just like everything, Its really important to plan things first before making any move. By that, we have more confidence that things will go smoothly.
On the other hand, sponsoring a contest is also a great way to get involved like what you said, and also to get noticed by others:) I never thought that you haven't done any contest yet on your great blog :) You should be hosting a contest anytime soon coz I'm already excited to join :)
